Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Greet the students and introduce the letter A. Show them the uppercase and lowercase letter A on a whiteboard or large paper. Ask if anyone knows what sound the letter A makes. - Video Time! (5 mins)
Play "The A Song" video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tif2a8vXeAA). Encourage students to sing and dance along! - Word Exploration (10 mins)
After the video, discuss the words featured in the song that start with the /a/ sound (e.g., apple, ant). Show pictures of each word. Ask students if they can think of other words that start with /a/. - Activity: /a/ Sound Hunt (10 mins)
Hide pictures of items around the room, some starting with /a/ and some not. Have the students find the pictures. Once they find one have them bring it to the group and identify it. As a group, identify if it makes the /a/ sound or not. Group correct responses and set the incorrect responses back to be found. - Wrap-up and Review (5 mins)
Review the letter A and its sound. Sing the "The A Song" one more time. Ask students to share their favorite /a/ word.

Provide picture cards of various objects. Have students sort the cards into two piles: those that start with the /a/ sound and those that don't. - Letter A Tracing
