- Students will be able to differentiate between uppercase and lowercase letters for A, B, and C.
Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking the children what letters they already know. Sing a simple ABC song together to get them excited about letters. Introduce the LeapFrog Letter Factory video and explain that they will be learning about letters and the sounds they make. - Video Viewing (5 mins)
Play the LeapFrog Letter Factory ABC Song video (specifically the portion featuring A, B, and C). Encourage children to sing along and repeat the sounds. - Letter Sound Practice (10 mins)
After the video, focus on each letter individually. For 'A', ask the children to make the /ă/ sound, like in 'ant'. Show pictures of objects that start with 'A'. Repeat the process for 'B' (/b/ sound, like in 'ball') and 'C' (/k/ sound, like in 'cat'). - Uppercase vs. Lowercase (5 mins)
Write uppercase and lowercase A, B, and C on the board. Explain that each letter has a big (uppercase) and small (lowercase) version. Have the children match the uppercase and lowercase letters. - Activity: Letter Hunt (10 mins)
Hide letter cards (A, B, C - uppercase and lowercase) around the room. Have the children find the letters and say their name and sound when they find them. - Wrap Up (5 mins)
Review the letters A, B, and C and their sounds one last time. Sing the ABC song again. Tell the children they did a great job learning about letters!
Interactive Exercises
- Sound Imitation Game
Teacher says a letter sound (/ă/, /b/, or /k/) and students must identify the letter that makes that sound. Then, students take turns making sounds for the class to guess. - Letter Matching
Provide letter cards (uppercase and lowercase A, B, and C). Students match the uppercase letter to its lowercase counterpart.
