Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students what the word 'thankful' means. Discuss things that make them happy. Introduce the 'I Am Thankful' song by Bubbly Vee and explain that it's about all the good things in our lives. - Video Viewing (3 mins)
Play the 'I Am Thankful' video. Encourage students to listen carefully to the words and watch the visuals. - Song and Discussion (7 mins)
Sing the song together as a class. After singing, discuss the things Bubbly Vee is thankful for (food, love, brain, land). Ask students to repeat the lines after you. - Group Sharing (10 mins)
Divide students into small groups. Have each student share one thing they are thankful for. Prompt them with examples if needed (e.g., family, toys, friends, pets). - Thankful Art (10 mins)
Provide each student with paper and crayons. Ask them to draw a picture of something they are thankful for. Encourage them to label their picture (with help if needed). - Closing (5 mins)
Have a few students share their drawings and explain what they are thankful for. Reiterate the importance of being thankful every day, not just on holidays.
Interactive Exercises
- Rhyme Time
Identify rhyming words from the song (e.g., eat/eat, share/share, use/use, see/see). Say a word and ask the students to say the word that rhymes with it in the song. Then, introduce new rhyming pairs (e.g., cat/hat, dog/log) and have students repeat them. - Thankful Charades
Write down things children might be thankful for on slips of paper (e.g., toys, family, food, books). Have students take turns acting out the item, and the other students guess what it is. After guessing correctly, have the guessing student say 'I am thankful for [item]'.
