Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students if they know any names that start with the letter 'J'. Write down the names on a whiteboard or large paper. Introduce the ABCmouse.com "The Letter J Song" video. - Watch "The Letter J Song" (3 mins)
Play the video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrYSjJf0ksc]. Encourage students to sing along and dance. - Discussion (5 mins)
After the video, ask students what words they heard in the song that started with the letter 'J'. Add these words to the list on the board. - "J" Word Brainstorm (7 mins)
As a group, brainstorm other words that start with the letter 'J'. Encourage students to think of objects, animals, and actions. Add these to the list. - "J" Sound Isolation Game (5 mins)
Say a word and ask students if it starts with the /j/ sound. Have them give a thumbs up for yes and a thumbs down for no. Example words: jar, cat, jump, dog, juice. - "J" is for Jellybean Craft (10 mins)
Provide each student with a large letter 'J' printed on paper. Have them glue jellybeans onto the letter. This will reinforce the letter's visual representation.
