Introduce the concept of sight words – words we learn to recognize quickly without sounding them out. Tell them that today we will watch a fun video to help us learn some of these sight words. - Video Viewing (12 mins)
Play the '100 Sight Words Collection for Children - Dolch Top 100 Words by ELF Learning' video. Encourage students to repeat the words along with the video. Pause after each section (after 'the', 'or', 'will', 'number') to review the words. - Word Card Activity (10 mins)
Prepare flashcards with the sight words featured in the video. After the video, show each flashcard and have the students say the word together. Then, call on individual students to read the word. Shuffle the cards and repeat. - Sight Word Hunt (8 mins)
Write the sight words on a whiteboard or large paper. Call out a sight word and have students point to it. You can also hide the sight words around the classroom, and the students must find them. - Wrap-up (5 mins)
Review the sight words learned during the lesson. Ask students to share their favorite new word. Encourage them to practice reading these words at home.
