Play the "Sesame Street: The Alphabet With Elmo and India Arie" video. Encourage students to listen and watch carefully. - Sing-Along (5 mins)
Play the video again and encourage the students to sing along with Elmo and India Arie. Pause the video between letters or groups of letters to allow the children to catch up and follow. - Letter Recognition Activity (10 mins)
Using flashcards, point to individual letters and ask the students to name them. Focus on the letters featured prominently in the alphabet song. You can also write the letters on the board and have them trace the letters with their fingers. - Wrap-up and Review (5 mins)
Sing the alphabet song one last time as a class. Ask students what they learned today. Praise their efforts in learning the alphabet.
Interactive Exercises
- Alphabet Flashcard Game
Show alphabet flashcards one at a time. Have the children call out the letter and try to think of a word that starts with that letter. Turn it into a game by giving stickers or small rewards for participation. - Alphabet Movement
Assign each letter a movement (e.g., A - arm circles, B - bending over, etc.). As you say each letter, have the children perform the corresponding movement. This helps them associate the letter with a physical action.
