  • Students will be able to sing along with the sight word song.

Educator Instructions

  • Introduction (5 mins)
Greet students and introduce the topic of sight words. Ask if anyone knows what sight words are (words we see often!). Explain that they're going to learn some new sight words with a fun song.
  • Sight Word Song (5 mins)
Play the 'The Sight Word Song (Version 1)' video. Encourage students to listen carefully and point to the words on the screen if possible. You can pause the video after each word is introduced.
  • Word Practice (10 mins)
Write the sight words from the song on a whiteboard or chart paper (like, play, home, this, is, it, in, we, can, see, are, and, the, you, am, my, come, here, mom, dad). Point to each word and have the students repeat it. Then, play a game of 'find the sight word' by calling out a word and having students point to it.
  • Letter Exploration (10 mins)
Focus on individual letters within the sight words. For example, take the word 'like' and ask students to name the letters (l-i-k-e). Practice writing the letters in the air or on paper. Use letter manipulatives (magnetic letters, letter blocks) to build the words.
  • Sing-Along (5 mins)
Play the song again and encourage students to sing along. Focus on clear pronunciation of each sight word.
  • Wrap-Up (5 mins)
Review the sight words learned during the lesson. Ask students which word was their favorite. Tell students that they will practice those words more next time!

Interactive Exercises

  • Sight Word Flashcards
Create flashcards with the sight words from the song. Show each card to the students and have them say the word. You can also play a matching game with the flashcards.
  • Sight Word Hopscotch
Write the sight words in hopscotch squares. Have students hop to each square and say the word as they land on it.
