Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students if they know any words that start with the 'w' sound. Show them a picture of an uppercase 'W' and a lowercase 'w'. Tell them that today they will learn about the letter 'W' and the sound it makes. - Video Time (3 mins)
Play the 'Letter W Song' video from Have Fun Teaching. Encourage students to sing along and do the actions suggested in the video (writing W in the air). - Vocabulary Exploration (7 mins)
After the video, review the vocabulary words from the song: woman, window, wig, wild, worm, wagon, water, wet. Show pictures of each item. Ask students to repeat the words after you and identify the 'w' sound at the beginning of each word. - Writing Practice (5 mins)
Guide students in writing the uppercase and lowercase letter W. You can use large paper or whiteboards. Emphasize the correct formation of the letter. - Activity: W is for...
Have students draw pictures of words starting with the letter W. Give each student a blank sheet of paper and crayons. They can draw a worm, watermelon, or anything else they can think of that starts with 'W'.

Hide pictures of objects around the room, some starting with 'W' and some that don't. Have students search for the pictures and identify only the objects that start with the 'W' sound.
