- Introduction (5 mins)
Greet students and introduce the concept of learning about the short 'e' sound. Ask if they know any words with the 'e' sound, like 'egg'. - Video Viewing (5 mins)
Play the 'Phonics & Reading Video for Kids & Toddlers: Short E' video from School My Kid. Encourage students to sing along and repeat the words. - Word Repetition (5 mins)
After the video, write each word ('pet,' 'jet,' 'wet,' 'net,' 'vet') on the board or large paper. Point to each word and have the students repeat it chorally. Emphasize the short 'e' sound. - Image Matching (5 mins)
Show pictures of a pet, jet, something wet, a net, and a vet. Ask students to match the picture to the correct word on the board. (Can use printed cards for a hands-on activity.) - Sound Isolation (5 mins)
Say simple sentences using the target words (e.g., 'I have a pet.') and ask students to identify the word with the short 'e' sound. Have them raise their hand or clap when they hear it. - Emergent Writing (5 mins)
Provide paper and crayons or markers. Encourage students to draw a picture of one of the short 'e' words and try to write the letter 'e' or even the whole word (with assistance if needed).
