Educator Instructions

  • Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking the children if they like cookies. Ask them who likes to eat cookies and what their favorite kind of cookie is. Then, tell them you will be listening to a song about a cookie.
  • Watch the Video (3 mins)
Play the 'Cookie Jar Song' video for the children.
  • Discuss the Song (5 mins)
After watching the video, ask the children who they think stole the cookie. Discuss the lyrics of the song and who is being accused.
  • Rhyming Activity (7 mins)
Explain what rhyming words are (words that sound alike). Ask the children if they can think of any words that rhyme with 'me' or 'you'. Provide prompts such as 'bee' or 'blue' if needed.
  • Answering Questions Activity (5 mins)
Ask the children simple questions about the song: 'Who stole the cookie?' 'Did you steal the cookie?' 'Who is singing the song?'
  • Cookie Jar Role-Play (5 mins)
Have the children sit in a circle. Choose one child to start as the 'accuser'. They point to another child and sing, 'Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?' The child they point to answers, 'Who, me?' Then the accuser says, 'Yes, you!' The child replies, 'Couldn't be!' and then points to someone else and restarts the rhyme.

Interactive Exercises

  • Rhyme Time
