Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Greet the children and introduce the topic: the letter R! Show them an uppercase R and a lowercase r. Ask if anyone knows any words that start with R. - Watch the Video (3 mins)
Play "The Letter R Song" video by ABCmouse.com. Encourage children to dance and sing along! - Discussion (5 mins)
After the video, ask children about the words they heard in the song that started with R. Write these words on a whiteboard or chart paper. - R Sound Practice (5 mins)
Practice making the /r/ sound together. Explain that the sound is made in the back of the mouth. Use a mirror to show them how their mouth moves. - Interactive Game (7 mins)
Play a simple game. Call out a word. If it starts with R, the children should clap their hands. If it doesn't, they should stomp their feet. - Craft Activity (5 mins)
Have the children create a letter R collage using pictures from magazines or drawings of objects that start with R. Provide pre-cut letters and images to reduce complexity.
