Begin by asking children if they know any letters of the alphabet. Introduce the concept that today, they'll be learning about a new letter: F. Show them a large printout of uppercase and lowercase F. - Video Time! (5 mins)
Play the Jack Hartmann 'Learn the Letter F' video. Encourage children to sing along, do the actions (writing in the air), and repeat the /f/ sound when prompted. - Sound it Out (5 mins)
After the video, review the /f/ sound. Ask children to make the /f/ sound and focus on how their mouths move. Remind them of the visual of Jack Hartmann in the video showing how to make the 'f' sound. Practice the sound together as a class. - F is For... (5 mins)
Brainstorm words that start with F. Show picture cards or real objects if available (e.g., fish, flower, foot). Repeat the words clearly, emphasizing the /f/ sound. Then, brainstorm words that end with F as Biff, Buff and Woof were in the video. - Writing F (5 mins)
Guide children in writing the uppercase and lowercase F in the air. Then, have them practice writing it on paper or using a whiteboard. Provide individual assistance as needed. - Wrap Up (5 mins)
Review the letter F, its sound, and some of the words learned. Sing the 'F' song one more time! End with positive reinforcement and encouragement.
