Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Greet the students and introduce the topic of CVC words. Ask them if they know what letters and words are. Tell them we're going to watch a short, fun video to learn more! - Video Viewing (3 mins)
Play the Starfall video: CVC Words: Phoneme Substitution, Deletion, and Blending — a Starfall™ Movie from Starfall.com. Encourage the children to watch and listen carefully. - Word Practice (7 mins)
After the video, review the words: 'cap,' 'cat,' and 'hat.' Say each word clearly and have the children repeat after you. Emphasize each sound in the word (e.g., /c/-/a/-/p/). Clap once for each sound - Sound Isolation (5 mins)
For each word, ask: "What's the first sound you hear in 'cap'?" (Answer: /c/). Repeat for the middle and last sounds. Do this for 'cat' and 'hat' as well. - Activity: Word Picture Cards (5 minutes)
Show picture cards of 'cap,' 'cat,' and 'hat.' Have students match the picture to the spoken word. Repeat several times.
Interactive Exercises
- Say It Loud!
Have the children stand up and shout out each CVC word three times. Vary the volume (whisper, normal, loud) to keep it engaging. - Clap the Sounds
Say a CVC word and have the children clap for each sound they hear. (e.g., 'cap' = clap-clap-clap).
