Educator Instructions

  • Introduction (5 mins)
    Begin by greeting the children and asking them what they already know about letters. Ask if they know the alphabet song. Explain that today they will watch a video about letter sounds.
  • Video Viewing (5 mins)
    Play the LeapFrog Letter Factory Alphabet Sounds Song video.
  • Letter Sound Practice (10 mins)
    Go through the alphabet, one letter at a time. Say the letter and its sound. Have the children repeat after you. Use hand gestures to represent the sounds (e.g., buzzing for 'B,' hissing for 'S').
  • Shape Exploration (5 mins)
    Discuss the shapes of different letters. Ask which letters have straight lines (A, E, F, etc.) and which have curves (O, C, S, etc.). Draw letters on the board and have children identify the shapes.
  • Alphabet Song Sing-Along (5 mins)
    Sing the alphabet song together as a class. Encourage enthusiasm and participation!
  • Review and Wrap-up (5 mins)
    Quickly review a few of the letters and sounds learned. Praise the children for their hard work and participation.

  • Letter Sound Charades
    Give each child a letter (written on a card). Have them act out the sound of the letter (e.g., pretending to bounce a ball for 'B'). The other children guess the letter.
  • Letter Shape Hunt
    Hide letter cards around the room. Have the children find the letters and identify their shapes (straight or curvy).
