Begin by asking students if they know any letters in the alphabet. Introduce the topic: Today we're learning about the letter 'L'! Show them a picture of a capital 'L' and a lowercase 'l'. - Watch the Video (5 mins)
Play the Jack Hartmann video, 'Learn The Letter L'. Encourage students to sing along and follow the actions in the video. - Letter L Sound Practice (5 mins)
After the video, focus on the /l/ sound. Ask students to repeat the /l/ sound after you. Use a mirror to show them how their mouth should look when making the sound. Use the words from the video to practice. Lobster, Lemons, Lemonade, Lunch, Fall, Tall, Owl, Small. - Letter L Writing Practice (5 mins)
Guide students to practice writing the uppercase 'L' and lowercase 'l' in the air, on paper, or on a whiteboard. Provide verbal cues: 'Big line down, little line across' for uppercase 'L'. 'Just a line down' for lowercase 'l'. - Letter L Word Hunt (5 mins)
Ask students if they can think of any words that start with the letter 'L'. (Lion, Lamp, Leaf). Repeat the words clearly, emphasizing the /l/ sound. Do the same for words ending in L, using the words in the song. This can be done as a class brainstorm. - Wrap-up (5 mins)
Quickly review the letter 'L', the /l/ sound, and the words you learned. Tell the students they did an awesome job!
