Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students if they know any letters of the alphabet. Introduce the letter P. Show them a picture of a capital P and a lowercase p. Tell them that today they will learn all about the letter P. - Video Viewing (5 mins)
Play the Jack Hartmann 'Learn the Letter P' video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14hXRz94jRQ). Encourage students to sing along and follow the actions in the video. - Letter Formation Practice (5 mins)
Guide students in practicing writing the uppercase and lowercase P in the air, on a whiteboard, or on paper. Emphasize the correct formation of the letter. - Sound Association (5 mins)
Review the /p/ sound. Ask students to say the /p/ sound together. Show pictures of words that start with P (penguin, party, pig, piano, etc.). Have students repeat the words and emphasize the /p/ sound at the beginning. You can also mention 'trip', 'map', 'swamp' and 'chomp' from the video. - Activity: P is for...
Have students draw pictures of things that start with P. Encourage them to label their drawings (with help if needed). - Wrap-up (5 mins)
Review the letter P and its sound. Sing the letter P song again. Ask students what they learned about the letter P. Assign 'p' handwriting practice for homework if appropriate.

Hide letter P cutouts around the room and have students find them. As they find each letter, have them say the /p/ sound. - "P" Sound Sort
