    Begin by asking the children if they know any letters. Tell them that today they are going to learn about the letter 'W'. Play the Jack Hartmann video 'Learn The Letter W'.
  • Letter 'W' Identification (5 mins)
    After the video, show the students a large uppercase 'W' and a lowercase 'w'. Ask them to point to the uppercase 'W' and then the lowercase 'w'. Have them trace the letters in the air with their fingers, just like in the video.
  • /w/ Sound Practice (5 mins)
    Have the children practice making the /w/ sound. Model the sound yourself, showing them how your mouth moves. Play a game: say '/w/' and then have them repeat it back to you.
  • 'W' Word Exploration (10 mins)
    Discuss the 'W' words from the video: winter, woodpecker, worms, water, minnow, yellow (at the end). Show pictures of these items. Ask the children if they can think of any other words that start with 'W' (e.g., window, wagon, whale). Ask if they remember other words from the song, like grew and row.
  • Writing Practice (5 mins)
    Provide each child with a piece of paper and a crayon or pencil. Have them practice writing uppercase 'W' and lowercase 'w'. Walk around the room and offer assistance as needed.
  • Wrap Up (5 mins)
    Sing the 'Learn The Letter W' song one more time. Review the letter 'W', the /w/ sound, and the 'W' words they learned. Praise their hard work!
