  • Students will be able to differentiate between uppercase and lowercase letters.
  • Students will be able to associate letters with their sounds

Educator Instructions

  • Introduction (5 mins)
Greet students and ask if they know their ABCs. Explain that today, they'll learn or practice the alphabet by singing along to a fun video! Establish listening rules (quiet hands, watching eyes).
  • Video Time (5 mins)
Play the Jack Hartmann ABC Song video. Encourage students to sing along and point to the letters as they appear on the screen.
  • Letter Review (10 mins)
After the video, review the alphabet. Point to uppercase letters on a chart or whiteboard and have students name them. Then, do the same with lowercase letters. Discuss how each letter has a big (uppercase) and a small (lowercase) version.
  • Sound Association (5 mins)
Choose a few letters and ask students what sound they make (e.g., "What sound does 'A' make?"). Give examples of words that start with that letter (e.g., "A is for apple!").
  • Interactive Activity: Letter Match (10 mins)
Prepare letter cards (uppercase and lowercase). Give each student a card. Have them find the matching uppercase or lowercase letter held by another student. Once they find their match, they can say the letter name together.
  • Closing (5 mins)
Sing the alphabet song together one more time, emphasizing the different sounds letters can make. Let the students know they will continue to practice this skill more throughout the year.

Interactive Exercises

  • Letter Matching Game
Use flashcards or a matching game where children pair uppercase and lowercase letters.

Have children act out letters with their bodies (e.g., forming the shape of an 'O' or 'L').
