- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by showing the 'Write the letter Q' video by The Singing Walrus. Ask children what letter they think they will be learning about. After the video, ask children what the letter was and what word was associated with the letter (Quail). - Uppercase Q Practice (10 mins)
Using the practice sheet from The Singing Walrus website (or a similar worksheet), guide students through writing the uppercase letter Q. Emphasize starting at the top, going around to the left, and then adding the line down to the right. Model the process on a whiteboard or large paper. - Lowercase q Practice (10 mins)
Now, guide students through writing the lowercase letter q. Emphasize starting in the middle, going around to the left like a 'c', then going back up and straight down below the bottom line. Model the process on a whiteboard or large paper. - Review and Reinforcement (5 mins)
Have students practice writing both uppercase and lowercase Q's independently. Circulate to provide individual assistance and encouragement. You can also have them say the letter Q and the word 'quail' as they write.
