Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students what they already know about the alphabet. Ask if they have a favorite letter. Introduce the LeapFrog video as a fun way to learn more about letters and sounds. - Video Viewing (15 mins)
Play the "LeapFrog Letters Animated" video. Encourage students to sing along and point to the letters as they appear on the screen. - Letter Sound Practice (10 mins)
After the video, focus on a few specific letters. Say the letter name, then the sound it makes. Have the students repeat after you. Use gestures to represent the sounds (e.g., flapping arms for 'A' like airplane). - Alphabet Matching Game (15 mins)
Prepare cards with uppercase and lowercase letters. Have students match the uppercase and lowercase letters. For an added challenge, have them say the sound each letter makes when they match it. - Wrap-up (5 mins)
Review the letters and sounds learned. Ask students what their favorite part of the lesson was. Sing the alphabet song together as a class.
Interactive Exercises
- Letter Sound Charades
Write letters on cards. Have students pick a card and act out a word that starts with that letter, making the letter sound (e.g., flapping arms and saying 'ah' for 'A' like airplane, pretending to bounce a ball and saying 'buh' for 'B' like ball).
