Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by gathering the children in a circle. Ask them if they know their ABCs. Introduce the 'Alphabet Beatbox' video as a fun way to learn the alphabet. - Video Viewing (3 mins)
Play the 'Alphabet Beatbox' video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znnE06_Ombk) for the students. Encourage them to listen and watch carefully. - Sing-Along and Repetition (5 mins)
Play the video again. This time, encourage the students to sing along with the beatboxer. Focus on clear pronunciation and repetition of letter names and sounds. Pause after each letter to give children time to respond. - Letter Flashcard Activity (7 mins)
Show large flashcards of individual uppercase letters. Ask the students to name the letter and say the word associated with it from the video (e.g., 'A...Apple!'). If they are comfortable, encourage them to make the 'beatbox' sound for the letter. - Sound Sorting Game (5 mins)
Prepare a set of picture cards depicting items that start with different letters of the alphabet used in the song (e.g., apple, bell, cat, dog). Ask children to sort the picture cards under the flashcard of the letter that matches the picture's initial sound. For younger children, start with fewer cards and letters. - Wrap-up (5 mins)
Sing the alphabet song one last time. Ask the children what their favorite letter from the song is and why. Praise their participation.
Interactive Exercises
- Letter Tracing
Provide students with large letter tracing worksheets or use finger painting to create letters on large sheets of paper. Encourage them to say the letter name and sound while tracing. - Alphabet Bean Bag Toss
Place letter flashcards on the floor. Have students toss bean bags onto the cards, naming the letter on the card they hit and saying the word from the video.
