Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students what they already know about reading. Ask if they know what sight words are and give a simple explanation: 'Sight words are words we learn to read quickly, like 'a', 'the', and 'I'.' Introduce the Preschool Prep Company video. - Video Viewing (10 mins)
Play the 'Meet the Sight Words - Level 1' video. Encourage students to repeat the words as they appear on the screen. Pause briefly after each word to allow for repetition. - Sight Word Review (10 mins)
After the video, write the sight words from the video on a whiteboard or large paper ('a', 'and', 'for', 'have', 'he', 'I', 'in', 'is', 'it', 'of', 'play', 'said', 'that', 'the', 'to', 'you'). Point to each word and have the students say it together. Repeat several times. - Interactive Game: Sight Word Search (10 mins)
Hide flashcards with the sight words written on them around the classroom. Have the students search for the flashcards. When a student finds a flashcard, they should bring it to you and say the word aloud. - Sight Word Writing Practice (10 mins)
Provide students with paper and crayons or markers. Have them practice writing the sight words. You can write the word on the board as a model. - Wrap-up (5 mins)
Review the sight words learned during the lesson. Ask students to name their favorite sight word and why. Congratulate them on their hard work!
