Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students what they already know about letters. Show them an alphabet chart and point out a few letters. Explain that today they'll be learning about letters with a fun song! - Video Viewing (3 mins)
Play the "Watch the Letters Get Down" video. Encourage students to clap, dance, and sing along. Pause after each section (A-D, E-H, etc.) to point out the letters. - Letter Sound Exploration (7 mins)
After the video, focus on a few letters (e.g., A, B, C). Say the letter and its sound clearly. Ask students to repeat the letter and sound. Provide examples of words that start with those letters (e.g., A is for apple, B is for ball, C is for cat). - Interactive Game: Letter Hop (10 mins)
Write uppercase letters on large pieces of paper and place them on the floor. Call out a letter, and have students hop to that letter. Then, ask them to say the sound that letter makes. You can also call out a word (e.g., apple) and have them hop to the letter that word starts with (A). - Vowel Identification (5 mins)
Introduce the vowels: A, E, I, O, U. Use the song lyrics, 'now I know my a e i o u yes I know my vows too A E I O O yes I know my vows too', to engage the students. Ask students to identify the vowels.
Interactive Exercises
- Letter Matching Game
Provide students with cards featuring uppercase letters. Have them match the cards to letters on an alphabet chart or on the floor. - Sound Scavenger Hunt
