Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Greet students and introduce the letter 'I'. Show them a large uppercase 'I' and a lowercase 'i'. Ask if anyone knows the letter. Explain that they're going to learn all about the letter 'I' and some words that start with it! - Watch the Video (5 mins)
Play 'The Letter I Song' video from ABCmouse.com. Encourage students to clap or drum along to the beat, as suggested in the video description. Tell the students to listen for words that start with the letter 'I'. - Discussion (5 mins)
After watching the video, ask students what words they heard in the song that start with the letter 'I'. List the words on a whiteboard or chart paper. - Activity: 'I' Spy (10 mins)
Play a simple game of 'I' Spy. For example, 'I spy with my little eye something that starts with I...an ice cube!' Have students guess the object. Take turns letting students be the 'spy'. - Craft: Igloo Creation (10 mins)
Provide students with cotton balls or marshmallows and glue. Have them create their own mini igloos on a piece of construction paper, reinforcing the 'igloo' word and the letter 'I'. - Review and Wrap-Up (5 mins)
Review the letter 'I', its sound, and the words learned. Sing the 'Letter I Song' again as a class.
