Begin by asking students if they know any letters. Introduce the letter of the day: J. Show them an uppercase and lowercase J. Ask them if they know any words that start with the letter J. - Video Time (5 mins)
Play the Jack Hartmann 'Learn the Letter J' video. Encourage students to sing along, do the actions, and repeat the /j/ sound. - Letter J Tracing (5 mins)
Provide students with a worksheet featuring uppercase and lowercase J's to trace. Guide them in correctly forming the letters, emphasizing the direction of the strokes. - J Word Brainstorm (5 mins)
As a class, brainstorm words that start with the letter J. Write them on the board or a large piece of paper. (jungle, juggled, jumped, jaguar, jelly, juice, jello, and jiggles). - J Sound Action Game (5 mins)
Call out words, some that start with /j/ and some that don't. When students hear a word that starts with /j/, they jump up and down. If it doesn't, they stay still. - Review and Wrap-up (5 mins)
Review the uppercase and lowercase J, the /j/ sound, and the J words learned. Sing the 'Learn the Letter J' song one more time.
