Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students if they know any words that start with a certain sound (e.g. /m/). Introduce the letter N (uppercase and lowercase). Show them a picture of the letter N and have them say the letter name. Talk about the sound it makes /n/. - Watch the Video (3 mins)
Play "The Letter N Song" video. Encourage the children to sing along. - Word Hunt (5 mins)
After the video, ask children to name all the words they heard in the song that start with the letter N. Write these words on a whiteboard or chart paper (Nancy, niece, Naomi, neatly, nibbled, noodles, nephew, Noah, noisily, Nina, Nugget, nuzzle, nose, neigh, Ned, Nathan, nana, Nora, nickel, next, neighborhood, nuts). - Nonsense Word Fun (5 mins)
Explain what a nonsense word is (a word that isn't real but still starts with the /n/ sound). Encourage children to make up their own nonsense words starting with 'N'. Examples: neep, noll, nip. - Noodle Art (7 mins)
Provide each child with a piece of paper and glue. Have them create a picture using dry noodles, emphasizing the letter N if possible (e.g., gluing noodles in the shape of the letter N). - Wrap-up (5 mins)
Review the letter N, its sound, and the words learned. Sing the "Letter N Song" again.
