- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students if they know the last letter of the alphabet. Introduce the letter Z and write it on the board (uppercase and lowercase). Ask students if they know any words that start with Z. - Video Viewing (3 mins)
Play the ABCmouse.com 'The Letter Z Song' video. Encourage students to sing along. - Vocabulary Exploration (7 mins)
After watching the video, list the Z words from the song on the board (zebra, zipper, zoo, zucchini, zeppelin, zither, zinnia, zing, ziti, zombie, zero, zany, zest, zephyr, zip code, zillion). Discuss each word and its meaning, using pictures or real objects if possible. - Letter Z Sound Practice (5 mins)
Practice the sound of the letter Z. Have students say the sound repeatedly. Play a game where you say a word, and students raise their hand if it starts with the letter Z. - Interactive Game: 'Z' Word Hunt (5 mins)
Hide pictures of Z words (zebra, zipper, zoo, etc.) around the room. Have students search for the pictures and bring them back. As they find a picture, have them say the word and identify the letter Z in the word (if applicable). - Craft Activity: Z is for Zebra (10 mins)
Provide students with a simple zebra outline. Have them decorate the zebra with black and white stripes using crayons, markers, or construction paper.
