Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students what they already know about letters. Sing the traditional alphabet song together as a warm-up. Briefly introduce the terms 'vowel' and 'consonant' in simple terms. - Video Viewing (3 mins)
Play the 'The Vowels and Consonants Song' video. Encourage students to sing along and dance to the music. - Vowel Identification (7 mins)
After watching the video, ask students which letters were identified as vowels. Write the vowels (A, E, I, O, U) on the board. Practice saying each vowel sound. Have students point to the vowels when you say them. Use visual aids like flashcards with pictures starting with each vowel sound. - Consonant Identification (7 mins)
Explain that the other letters are consonants. Name a few consonants and have students repeat them. Point to consonants on the board and have students say their names. Use simple examples of words starting with consonants. - Sorting Activity (8 mins)
Prepare letter cards (uppercase and lowercase). Have students sort the cards into two piles: vowels and consonants. Provide assistance and encouragement as needed. - Wrap-up and Review (5 mins)
Sing the 'The Vowels and Consonants Song' again. Briefly review the difference between vowels and consonants. Ask students to name one vowel and one consonant as they leave.
