Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Greet students and introduce the topic: learning about short vowels. Ask if they know any vowels. Briefly explain that vowels are special letters that make different sounds. - Video Time! (10 mins)
Play the "Short Vowels Mix - aeiou (five videos) - Phonics songs" video. Encourage students to sing along and clap their hands. - Vowel Review (10 mins)
After the video, review each vowel sound individually. Show flashcards (or draw on a whiteboard) of the words from the song for each vowel (cat, bed, pig, dog, bug). Have students repeat the words and emphasize the short vowel sound. Ask students if they can think of other words with the same vowel sound. - Activity Time! (10 mins)
Divide students into groups and give each group a set of picture cards (pictures of objects with short vowel sounds and some without). Have them sort the cards into piles based on the vowel sound they hear in the word. Go around and help them with the activity. - Wrap Up (5 mins)
Sing the vowel song one more time as a class. Review the short vowel sounds one last time and tell the children good job!

- Vowel Sound Sort
Provide picture cards of various objects. Have students sort them into piles based on the short vowel sound they hear in the word (a, e, i, o, u). - Vowel Charades
Act out a word with a short vowel sound (e.g., 'run', 'sit', 'hop'). Have other students guess the word and identify the short vowel sound.
