- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students what they already know about sight words. Explain that sight words are words we learn to read quickly, without sounding them out. Introduce the Jack Hartmann video and explain that they will be singing along to learn new sight words. - Video Sing-Along (10 mins)
Play the Jack Hartmann video: 'Dolch Sight Word Review | Kindergarten | Jack Hartmann'. Encourage students to sing along and say the sight words before Jack does. Pause the video periodically to highlight specific words. - Sight Word Practice (10 mins)
After the video, write a few of the sight words from the video on the board (e.g., 'all', 'am', 'are'). Have students point to the words as you say them. Practice writing the words together as a class, focusing on letter formation. - Sight Word Game (10 mins)
Play a simple sight word game, such as 'Sight Word Bingo' or 'Sight Word Hopscotch'. This provides a fun and interactive way to reinforce the learned sight words. - Wrap-up (5 mins)
Review the sight words learned during the lesson. Ask students to share their favorite sight word. Explain that knowing sight words helps them become better readers.
