Learning Objectives

- Students will be able to sequence events in a story in the correct order.
- Students will be able to retell a simple story using sequence words like 'first,' 'next,' and 'last'.
Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students if they like stories. Ask them what makes a good story. Introduce the concept of sequencing: that stories have a beginning, a middle, and an end, and that things happen in a certain order. - Video Viewing (7 mins)
Play the "Sequencing Stories - Episode 3" video from Print2Teach. Before playing, tell the students to pay close attention to what happens first, next, and last in each little story. - Story Discussion (8 mins)
After each story, pause the video and ask students to describe what happened 'first,' 'next,' and 'last.' Guide them in identifying the correct order of events. Focus on one story at a time. - Interactive Sequencing Activity (10 mins)
Choose one of the stories from the video (e.g., 'A poor bird'). Draw simple pictures representing the beginning, middle, and end of the story on separate pieces of paper. Mix up the pictures and have the students work together to put them in the correct order. Use words like 'first,' 'then,' and 'finally' to describe the sequence. - Wrap-up (5 mins)
Review the concept of sequencing and ask students why it's important for understanding stories. Encourage them to think about the order of events in their own lives and tell a very simple story about their morning (e.g., 'First, I woke up. Then, I ate breakfast. Last, I came to school.').
Interactive Exercises
- Picture Sequencing
Provide students with a set of 3-4 pictures depicting a simple activity (e.g., making a sandwich, brushing teeth). Have them arrange the pictures in the correct order and describe what is happening in each picture using sequence words. - Act it Out
Choose one of the stories from the video. Have students act out the story, with each student representing a different part of the sequence. Encourage them to use the words 'first,' 'then,' and 'last' while they act.
