  • Students will be able to answer simple questions about the characters and actions in a story.

Educator Instructions

  • Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students if they know what a story is. Discuss what makes a story (characters, events). Explain that stories have a beginning, middle, and end, and that the order of events is important.
  • Video Viewing (10 mins)
Watch the "Sequencing Stories - Episode 8" video. Pause after each short story to discuss the events that happened.
  • Story Retelling (10 mins)
For each short story, ask students to retell what happened. Prompt them with questions like, "What happened first?", "What happened next?", and "What happened last?". Use pictures or drawings to help them remember the order.
  • Activity: Sequencing Cards (10 mins)
Provide pre-printed cards with pictures from the stories (or have students draw their own). Have students work individually or in small groups to arrange the cards in the correct order for each story. Start with 3-4 cards per story.
  • Wrap-up (5 mins)
Review the importance of sequencing and how it helps us understand stories. Ask students what they learned and if they enjoyed the activity.

Interactive Exercises

  • Picture Sequencing
Provide pictures depicting events from one of the stories (e.g., ice cream falling, dog licking ice cream). Ask children to arrange the pictures in the order they happened in the story.
  • Act It Out!
Choose one of the stories and have the children act out the events in the correct order. This can be done as a whole class or in small groups.
