  • Storytelling
  • Daily Routines

Learning Objectives

  • Students will be able to identify the first, next, and last events in a simple story.
  • Students will be able to retell a story in sequential order.
  • Students will be able to recognize and describe familiar daily routines.

Educator Instructions

  • Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by greeting the students and introducing the topic of sequencing. Ask them if they know what it means for things to happen in order. Show them a simple picture of a daily routine (e.g., brushing teeth) and ask them what happens first, next, and last.
  • Video Viewing (5 mins)
Play the YouTube video "Sequencing Stories - Episode 13" by Print2Teach. Before playing, tell students to pay attention to the order of events in each story.
  • Story Retelling and Sequencing (10 mins)
After each short story in the video, pause and ask students to retell what happened first, next, and last. Use prompting as needed. Focus on the stories from the transcript: Woolly Sheep, Clean Hands, The Morning, Making Acorn Horses, A Growing Girl. Use visual aids (e.g., printed pictures from the stories) to help them sequence the events.
  • Interactive Sequencing Activity (10 mins)
Distribute pre-cut picture cards representing the sequence of a simple routine (e.g., making a sandwich, washing hands, getting dressed). Have students work individually or in small groups to arrange the cards in the correct order. Circulate to provide assistance and encouragement.
  • Review and Closure (5 mins)
Review the concept of sequencing and the vocabulary (first, next, last). Ask students to share one thing they learned about sequencing today. Thank them for their participation.

Interactive Exercises

  • Picture Sequencing
Provide students with sets of 3-4 picture cards illustrating a simple sequence (e.g., planting a seed, watering it, a flower growing). Have them arrange the cards in the correct order and describe what is happening in each picture.
  • Act it Out!
Choose a simple routine (e.g., brushing teeth, washing hands). Have students act out the steps in the correct order, narrating what they are doing using 'first,' 'next,' and 'last.'
