Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking the children if they have ever told a story about something that happened to them or someone else. Explain that today, they will learn about who is telling the story and how that changes the story. We call this 'Point of View.' - Video Time (5 mins)
Play the YouTube video: 'Point Of View eLearning Reading Video Lesson for Kids'. Encourage students to listen carefully to the words and examples in the video. - Discussion (5 mins)
After the video, discuss what 'point of view' means using Pre-K friendly language. Emphasize that 'point of view' is who is talking to us. - Activity: 'I' or 'He/She' Game (10 mins)
Read short sentences aloud. Some should use 'I' (e.g., 'I like to play with my toys.') and others 'He/She/They' (e.g., 'She likes to play with her doll.'). Have the students say 'I' or 'He/She/They' depending on which one they hear. Optionally, use flashcards with faces. One face representing 'I' and another 'He/She/They'. - Drawing Activity (10 mins)
Have the students draw a picture of something they did today. Then, ask them to tell you about their picture. Help them use 'I' when talking about themselves.
Interactive Exercises
- 'Point of View' Sorting
Prepare cards with simple sentences using 'I', 'me', 'my', 'he', 'she', 'they'. Have students sort the cards into two piles: 'I' pile and 'He/She/They' pile.
