Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking children what their favorite numbers are and write the numbers on the board or a chart. Briefly explain that they will be learning to read and spell these number words. Show them that number can be a word as well as a digit. - Video Time! (10 mins)
Play the Jack Hartmann Sight Words - Numbers video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_eoWxMXnoM). Encourage children to sing along, spell the words with Jack, and repeat each word three times as instructed in the video. - Word Card Practice (10 mins)
After the video, use flashcards with each number sight word. Show each card and have the students say the word together. Then, ask individual students to spell the word. Provide assistance and encouragement. - Number Match Game (10 mins)
Prepare two sets of cards: one set with the number sight words written on them, and another set with the corresponding number of dots or pictures (e.g., a card with 'three' and a card with three dots). Have the students match the word cards to the corresponding dot/picture cards. - Wrap-Up (5 mins)
Review the number sight words learned during the lesson. Sing the Sight Words song once more. Tell students they will see if they remember the words in a short quiz.
