Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students what things they see around the classroom. Briefly review what a noun is (person, place, or thing). - Video Time! (7 mins)
Watch the Homeschool Pop video 'Adjectives for Kids'. Pause at the example sections (2:30) to ask students for other describing words. - Adjective Brainstorm (5 mins)
Choose a common object in the classroom (e.g., a chair, a book, a window). Ask students to brainstorm adjectives to describe it. Write the words on the board. - Describing Pictures (8 mins)
Show pictures of familiar things like animals, toys, and food. Have students take turns describing the pictures using adjectives. - Adjective Game (5 mins)
Play a simple 'I Spy' game, but focus on using adjectives. For example, 'I spy with my little eye something that is blue and round.'
Interactive Exercises
- Describing Myself!
Each student says one adjective that describes themselves, e.g., 'I am happy,' 'I am tall,' 'I am kind.' - Mystery Bag!
Put several objects in a bag. Students reach in without looking and describe the object they feel using adjectives. Then they guess what it is.
