Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students if they know what 'opposite' means. Use simple examples like 'Up' and 'Down.' Explain that words can have opposites too, and these are called antonyms. Introduce the video. - Video Viewing (3 mins)
Play the Mind Blooming 'Antonyms' video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47ml9OS0fEo). Encourage students to watch and listen carefully. - Discussion and Examples (7 mins)
After the video, review what antonyms are. Ask students to give examples of antonyms they remember from the video (e.g., big/small, hot/cold). Provide additional examples, using visuals if possible (e.g., a picture of a happy face and a sad face). - Interactive Activity (10 mins)
Lead the 'Opposite Game'. Say a word and have the students shout out the antonym. Start with easy words like 'Up', 'Big', 'Happy', and 'Fast'. Gradually introduce more challenging words. Use gestures or actions to help them understand the meaning of the words. - Worksheet Activity (10 mins)
Distribute the 'Matching Antonyms' worksheet. Have students draw a line to connect each word to its antonym. Assist students with reading the words, if needed. Offer positive reinforcement and praise their efforts.
