- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students if they know what syllables are. Explain that syllables are the sound parts that make up words. Tell them that today, they will be learning how to clap and count syllables. - Video Time (7 mins)
Play the 'What are Syllables?' video from Miacademy Learning Channel. Encourage students to watch and listen carefully to the examples. - Clapping Practice (10 mins)
After the video, practice clapping out syllables together as a class. Start with simple words like 'cat,' 'dog,' and 'house' (one syllable). Then move on to two-syllable words like 'apple,' 'table,' and 'happy.' Finally, try three-syllable words like 'banana,' 'elephant,' and 'computer.' - Jaw Drop Syllables (5 mins)
Demonstrate the 'jaw drop' method as shown in the video. Have the students place their hand under their chin and say words to feel the syllables. - Wrap-up (3 mins)
Review what syllables are and how to count them. Ask students to share their favorite words and clap out the syllables.
