  • Letter Exploration (15 mins)

  • Sound Sorting (10 mins)
    Prepare picture cards of various objects. Some should start with H, J, K, L, or M, and others with different letters. Have students sort the cards into groups based on the beginning sound. For example, a card with a picture of a 'house' goes under the 'H' group.
  • Word Building (10 mins)
    Use letter manipulatives (magnetic letters, letter tiles) to build simple words that start with the target consonants, such as 'ham', 'jam', 'kit', 'lap', and 'map'. Focus on sounding out each letter as you build the word. Students can work in pairs or small groups.
  • Wrap-up (5 mins)
