Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students what they already know about letters and sounds. Briefly review the concept of consonants and vowels. Introduce the video: 'Six Consonants: T, V, W, X, Y, and Z.' - Video Viewing (5 mins)
Play the video for the students. Encourage them to pay attention to the sounds each letter makes and the example words. - Sound Practice (10 mins)
After the video, go through each letter (T, V, W, X, Y, Z) individually. Have the students repeat the sound of each letter after you. Provide additional examples of words that begin or end with each letter. For example: T - turtle, top; V - volcano, vase; W - watermelon, window; X - xylophone, box; Y - yellow, yogurt; Z - zoo, zero. - Word Game (10 mins)
Play a simple word game. Say a word and have the students identify the letter that it starts with. Alternatively, say a letter and have students come up with words that start with that letter. If they are able to write, have them try to write the letter on a piece of paper. Focus on the letters introduced in the video. - Wrap-up (5 mins)
Review the letters and their sounds one last time. Ask students to share their favorite new word they learned during the lesson.
Interactive Exercises
- Letter Sound Matching
Prepare cards with the letters T, V, W, X, Y, and Z. Also, prepare cards with pictures of objects that start with these letters (table, van, watermelon, xylophone, yo-yo, zebra). Have students match the letter card to the corresponding picture card. - Consonant Hunt
Hide pictures around the room that start with the letters T, V, W, X, Y, and Z. Have the students find the pictures and say the name of the object. Focus on enunciating the consonant sound. For example, if they find a picture of a 'van', emphasize the /v/ sound.
