Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students if they like stories. Ask them to name some of their favorite stories. Introduce the video and explain that they will be learning about the three basic ingredients that make up every story. - Video Viewing (5 mins)
Play the Miacademy Learning Channel video: "Early Writing: Basic Story Elements - Learn to Read for Kids!" - Discussion (5 mins)
After watching the video, ask students what the three basic ingredients of a story are. Review each element: Who (character), Where (setting), and What Happened (plot). Use examples from the video. - Story Creation (10 mins)
Have each student think of their own story. Prompt them to think about: Who is their story about? Where does the story take place? What happens in their story? Encourage them to draw a picture of their story. - Story Sharing (10 mins)
Have students share their stories with the class. Encourage them to use their drawings to help them tell their story. Provide positive feedback and encouragement.

Prepare cards with different story elements (e.g., 'a dog', 'at school', 'played tag'). Have students sort the cards into the categories: Who, Where, What Happened. - Picture Prompt Story
