Educator Instructions

  • Introduction (5 mins)
    Teacher will review the importance of spelling and introduce Teacher Nikki from the Guyana Learning Channel video. Students will be asked to spell their names, the day, and the month in their notebooks as a warm-up.
  • Video Viewing (15 mins)
    Play the 'English Language - Grade 1: Spelling' video. Students will write each word as it is presented and spell it out loud with Teacher Nikki.
  • Practice (15 mins)
    After the video, students will choose 3 words from the list and write their own sentences using those words. Teacher will provide assistance as needed.
  • Review & Quiz (10 mins)
    Review all the spelled words. Administer multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank quizzes to assess understanding.

    Teacher writes the letters of each spelling word on index cards. Students unscramble the letters to make the correct word.
  • Sentence Building
