Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by introducing the concept of reading numbers from 1 to 100. Explain that numbers are everywhere and it's important to learn to read them. Show the YouTube video: 'Learn Grade 1 - Maths - Reading Numbers 1 to 100'. Let students know they will become number explorers! - Sequential Number Reading (10 mins)
After watching the video, revisit the number chart from the video. Practice reading the numbers from 1 to 100 in order, going row by row. Encourage students to read aloud together. Point to each number as you read it. - Color-Coded Number Reading (10 mins)
Focus on the color-coded rows from the video (yellow, blue, red). Practice reading the numbers in each color sequence. Ask questions like, 'What number comes after 21 in the yellow row?' - Diagonal Number Reading (10 mins)
Practice reading the numbers along the diagonal or slanting lines as shown in the video. This helps reinforce number recognition in a different pattern. - Number Identification Game (10 mins)
Play a simple number identification game similar to the one at the end of the video. Call out a number and have students point to it on a printed or projected number chart. You can also have them write the number on a whiteboard or paper.
Interactive Exercises
- Number Chart Scavenger Hunt
Provide each student with a number chart (1-100). Call out specific numbers and have students find and circle them on their chart. Increase the difficulty by asking them to find the number that is 1 more or 1 less than a given number. - Number Line Hop
Create a large number line on the floor (using tape or chalk). Call out a number and have students hop to that number on the number line. You can add variations like hopping forward or backward a certain number of spaces.
