Play the YouTube video: 'Learn Grade 1 - Maths - Introduction to Numbers 17,18 and 19'. Encourage students to count along with the video. - Counting Practice (10 mins)
Using manipulatives like counters, blocks, or beads, have students practice counting out 17, 18, and 19 objects. Group the objects into one group of ten and the remaining ones to visually represent the tens and ones place value. - Writing Numbers (10 mins)
Have students practice writing the numbers 17, 18, and 19. Write the numbers on the board and say them aloud. Have the students repeat after you. Write the word seventeen, eighteen and nineteen on the board and say each of them aloud. Have the students repeat after you. Provide worksheets with dotted numbers for them to trace and then practice writing on their own. Reinforce the spelling of each number. - Tens and Ones Activity (10 mins)
Use a tens and ones chart. Show students how to place the digits of 17, 18, and 19 in the correct columns. Guide them to understand that '1' in the tens column represents ten and the digit in the ones column represents the number of ones. For instance, for 17, write 1 in the tens column and 7 in the ones column. - Wrap Up (5 mins)
