Lesson Description
Video Resource
Learn Grade 1 - Maths - Writing 0 to 5 Numbers
KidsClassroom - Nursery Rhymes & Kids Songs
Key Concepts
- Number recognition (0-5)
- Number formation (writing 0-5)
- Counting and quantity association
Learning Objectives
- Students will be able to correctly write the numbers 0 to 5.
- Students will be able to associate the written number with its corresponding quantity (e.g., 3 with three objects).
Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students what their favorite number is between 0 and 5. Show the video 'Learn Grade 1 - Maths - Writing 0 to 5 Numbers' by KidsClassroom - Nursery Rhymes & Kids Songs. Explain that they will learn how to write each of these numbers. - Number Zero (5 mins)
Following the video, guide students to write the number 0. Emphasize the anti-clockwise direction. Have them trace 0 in the air, on their desks, and then on paper. Relate it to having nothing - 'zero cookies'. - Numbers One to Five (15 mins)
Repeat the process for numbers 1 to 5. For each number: show how to write it, have students practice tracing and writing, and then relate the number to a quantity. For example, show one block, two pencils, three crayons, four erasers, and five markers. Discuss the direction of the strokes for writing each number. - Practice and Review (10 mins)
Provide students with a worksheet containing dotted numbers for them to trace, and blank spaces for them to practice writing numbers 0-5. Have students draw the correct number of objects next to each number they write (e.g., draw 3 stars next to the number 3). - Wrap up (5 mins)
Review all the numbers learned in class. Ask students to name a number and write it on the board. Praise effort and participation.
Interactive Exercises
- Number Hunt
Hide number cards (0-5) around the room. Have students find the cards and say the number out loud, then draw that many objects on a piece of paper. - Counting Objects
Provide small objects (e.g., blocks, counters, crayons). Ask students to make groups with a specific number of objects (e.g., 'Make a group of 4 blocks').
