Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students if they've ever helped clean up a messy room. Show a picture of a messy room and a tidy room. Ask them which room is easier to find things in. Introduce the idea that grouping things helps us keep things tidy and find what we need. - Video Viewing (5 mins)
Watch the "Learn Grade 1 - Maths - Concept Of A Group" video. After watching, briefly discuss what Star did in the video to clean her room and what groups she made. - Group Sorting Activity (10 mins)
Provide each student (or small group) with a collection of mixed objects (e.g., crayons, blocks, toy cars, buttons). Guide them to sort the objects into groups based on different criteria: 1. By Type: All crayons together, all blocks together, etc. 2. By Color: All red items together, all blue items together, etc. 3. By Shape: (if applicable and objects allow) All square items together, all round items together, etc. Discuss the different groups they created and why they chose to group them that way. - Real-Life Group Examples (5 mins)
Discuss real-life examples of groups students see every day, such as: - Groups of students in their classroom (e.g., reading group, math group) - Groups of animals (e.g., a flock of birds, a herd of cows) - Groups of food (e.g., fruits, vegetables, snacks) - Wrap Up (5 mins)
Review what they learned about groups. Ask students to share one thing they learned about making groups and why it's useful. Emphasize that groups help us organize and understand the world around us.

- Classroom Grouping Game
Call out different categories (e.g., "Everyone wearing blue!") and have the students quickly form a group based on that category. Repeat with different categories to reinforce the concept. - Drawing Groups
