Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by reviewing the video's introduction. Briefly discuss what a graph is and why we use them (to show information). Ask students what kinds of things they could graph (e.g., favorite fruits, colors, toys). - Video Viewing and Discussion (10 mins)
Play the video from The Eagle's Nest. Pause at key points to ask questions and reinforce concepts, such as after the initial car graphing and after the picture replacement. Ask students to identify the colors being graphed. - Guided Practice (10 mins)
Lead students in creating a simple pictograph together as a class. For example, ask each student their favorite fruit (apple, banana, or orange) and then draw the pictograph on the board, using simple drawings to represent each student's choice. - Independent Practice (10 mins)
Have students create their own pictographs. They can choose a topic (e.g., favorite animals, colors of their classmates' shirts). Provide them with graph paper or a template. Remind them to label their graph and use pictures. - Wrap-up (5 mins)
Review the key concepts of 'most,' 'fewest,' 'left,' and 'right.' Have students share their pictographs and answer questions about them.
