Begin by introducing pattern blocks. Ask students if they've seen them before. Briefly discuss what shapes they think they might see. Explain that they will watch a video about shapes and colors. - Video Viewing (3 mins)
Play the video: 'Identifying Attributes of Pattern Blocks with Jon'. Instruct students to pay attention to the names of the shapes and their colors. - Shape Review (7 mins)
After the video, review each shape and its color with the students. Hold up each shape (if you have physical blocks) and ask, 'What shape is this? What color is it?' Reinforce the correct answers. - Creative Design (10 mins)
Give each student a set of pattern blocks. Instruct them to create their own design using the shapes. Encourage them to use different shapes and colors. Walk around and ask them about their creations. 'What shapes did you use? What colors are in your design?' - Wrap-up (5 mins)
Gather the class and have a few students share their designs. Emphasize the different shapes and colors they used. Review all the shapes and colors covered in the video and activity.
