    Begin by asking students what their favorite numbers are. Write the numbers on the board as numerals. Tell them today we're learning to write these numbers as words!
  • Video Viewing (5 mins)
    Watch the YouTube video 'Grade 1: Math Lesson #63 Review Writing The Numbers 0 - 10 Using Words'. Encourage students to spell along with the video and write down the words as they appear.
  • Guided Practice (10 mins)
    Go through each number word from zero to ten. Write the numeral on the board. Then, write the word. Have the students repeat after you. Then, have students write each number word 3 times on a piece of paper. Focus on correct spelling.
  • Independent Practice (8 mins)
    Provide a worksheet where students match numerals (0-10) with their written number words. Alternatively, have students write the number word for a given numeral.

  • Number Word Scramble
    Write the letters of a number word on the board in a jumbled order. Have students work together to unscramble the letters to spell the number word correctly. Do this for several numbers between 0 and 10.
  • Number Word Bingo
    Create bingo cards with number words. Call out numerals (e.g., 'The number 3!'). Students mark the corresponding word on their cards. The first student to get bingo wins.
