- Students will be able to correctly perform simple addition within 10.
- Students will be able to associate a yoga pose with a true or false answer.
Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Explain to students that they will be learning about true and false addition equations. Tell them that they will also be doing yoga poses based on their answers! - Video Time! (5 mins)
Play the "First Grade Brain Break: Addition True & False (1.OA.D.7)" video. Encourage students to participate actively by solving the addition problems and doing the yoga poses. - Discussion (5 mins)
After the video, discuss the equations with the students. Ask them how they knew the answer and what strategies they used to add. Review the yoga poses associated with true and false. - Practice Problems (10 mins)
Write a few more addition equations on the board. Have students work individually or in pairs to determine if the equations are true or false. Have them do a chosen physical action depending on if it is true or false (e.g., touch their toes for true, clap hands for false).
Interactive Exercises
- True or False Cards
Create cards with addition equations on them. Divide students into groups. Each group gets a set of cards. Students take turns picking a card, solving the equation, and deciding if it's true or false. They explain their reasoning to the group.
